Mr. Miller is a subject matter expert and the lead consultant responsible for developing and delivering training related to workplace safety, emergency preparedness, workplace violence and prevention, and active shooter response.
Before joining Allied Universal, Mr. Miller served for more than 32 years with the Los Angeles Police Department with more than 20 years as a supervisor in the Counterterrorism Special Operations Bureau. He has extensive experience in private-sector security and has worked in executive protection, event security, and security consulting for more than 30 years.
As a supervisor, Mr. Miller was responsible for various high-risk operations including dignitary protection, special events planning, department-wide in-service tactics and firearms training, and significant crowd control incidents. He was the lead instructor and supervisor of the Defensive Tactics Unit, the Tactical Emergency Medical Team, and the Active Shooter Training Cadre. Mr. Miller was also a member of a multi-agency panel that met to develop the multi-tiered counterterrorism response system known as MACTAC.
Mr. Miller has hundreds of hours of experience instructing first responders and civilians in emergency, crisis response, and terrorism and active shooter response.

Matt Smith is the Vice President, Director of Security for JBG SMITH a Washington, DC area based commercial real estate firm and developer. Matt is a retired Police Captain from Arlington County, VA. where he served 25 years. Matt is actively involved with several industry associations locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally and has previously held the following leadership positions including Chair of the American Society for Industrial Security’s International Commercial Real Estate Council, Chair of the Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA) of Metropolitan Washington’s Emergency Preparedness Committee, and Sector Chief for the FBI Infragards’s Commercial Facilities Sector for the National Capital Region. Matt is currently the chair of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s Emergency Preparedness Committee. Matt has a BS in Business Administration from Old Dominion University and a MS in Public Administration from Central Michigan University
