Ben Myers

Director of Sustainability, Boston Properties

Ben Myers is the Director of Sustainability at Boston Properties, the largest publicly-traded developer, owner and manager of Class A office properties in the United States. He is an engineer and non-routine project manager with a passion for resource efficiency, healthy workspaces and urban ecosystems. His primary responsibilities include enterprise energy and water management, green building strategy, distributed generation and storage, energy conservation measure implementation, resiliency planning, sustainability education, communication and ESG public reporting. Prior to joining Boston Properties, Ben was a green building services coordinator at Harvard University and construction project manager. He is a LEED AP BD+C and a Certified Energy Manager. He holds an M.A. in Urban Environmental Leadership from Lesley University and a B.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Katie Bergfeld

Chief, Building Performance and Enforcement Branch, DC Department of Energy & Environment

Katie Bergfeld is the Branch Chief for Building Performance and Enforcement at the Department of Energy & Environment. Coming to the agency with 10 years of experience in green building, she currently oversees all facets of the District’s benchmarking program, as well as the development of the District’s new building energy performance standards that were set forth in the Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act of 2018. Prior to joining DOEE, Katie worked as a Program Specialist with the U.S. Green Building Council, where she worked in the LEED Certification Department. Katie has an M.A. in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development from American University and B.S. in Environmental Studies from Emory University. She is both a LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C) and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Marta Schantz

SVP, Greenprint Center for Building Performance, Urban Land Institute

Marta Schantz is the senior vice president for the Greenprint Center for Building Performance at the Urban Land Institute, a worldwide alliance of leading real estate owners, investors, and strategic partners committed to improving the environmental performance of the global real estate industry. Through measurement, benchmarking, knowledge sharing, and implementation of best practices, Schantz leads Greenprint and its members as they strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030. She brings deep experience in the real estate sustainability market to lead and collaborate across organizations and stakeholders to achieve program goals and successes. Before her time at the Urban Land Institute, Schantz worked at Waypoint Energy providing energy efficiency consulting and program management services to utilities and real estate, and before that she worked at Booz Allen Hamilton on the federal energy consulting team on projects ranging from commercial building efficiency to nuclear energy finance. Her early career started as a cost analyst with the U.S. Department of Energy. Schantz is a LEED Green Associate and a Fitwel Ambassador. She holds a BS in biological engineering with a minor in science technology and society from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
